Liu kang is the main character of mortal kombat

Rule of thumb is the most basic and easiest to pick up and play character

If they fight like a shoto, then that's your fighting game hero

While i would agree that liu Kang is the main character, They often use Scorpion as the tutorial character. His moveset is the easiest to pickup for the beginners. and he is lowkey the face of the franchise nowadays.

Sort of like how Cyclops or Prof X is technically main character of the X-men franchise. but Wolverine often takes the shine

Scorpion was always the “main character” of MK1 as far as i was concerned.

Would maybe give MK 2 to lui kang due to the movie and the iconic bicycle kick.

But that’s my point. Fighting games usually don’t have one character they present as the “main”

The community may pick the “main character” but that’s usually up for debate.

Yeah, liu Kang had been getting shafted for pretty much the past decade but he's finally got the spotlight again

In the games at least cause the sequel to the last movie rumored to be bushing him again

In spite it all, I consider him to be the lead hero of the overall series. Other characters may take the lead during individual games but he's always gonna be the one it revolves around. Cause the reason other characters get to shine is cause it'd get old if every game ended with liu winning the tournament

This goes for lots of different characters in those games.

For the record Scorpion has never been the main character he is just Boon’s favorite.

So he’s the character the devs themselves called their favorite and they promoted as such.
