Does anybody think that NBA analysts and personalities go overboard with players age?

are you high? who was better? theres a reason he won the scoring title AND the mvp AND the chip that year
Malone and Barkley were winning MVPs too when Jordan was playing and MJ was clearly better than them.

Shaq was the other name people used to mention as the best during that time. Jordan was certainly not clearly better than Shaq in 98. That's revisionist history.

Compressed season.

No extra rest this series.

7 game series in round 2.

7th game.

4th quarter.

5 straight years of at least the conference semis with 2 Finals appearances over that span.

How old were you in 1998? Seriously.

you sound young or stupid, its one or the other b. i'm a give you the benefit of the doubt and say you was a baby in 98.
Shaq averaged 30/10/3/2 in the playoffs and 28/11/3/2 in the regular season on 50% shooting. Jordan averaged 28/6/3 in 98. You really think it was that much of a stretch that people said Shaq was better? Because they DID.

No one. He certainly didn't get any first-place votes for MVP that year.
MJ led the Bulls to 62 wins despite Pippen missing 38 games.
The MVP doesn't always go to the best player. Else Malone and Barkely wouldn't have won MVPs over Jordan. MVP does not mean best player. Never has.

He was by far the best player in the league. Shaq was still the ineffective player that he was in 4th quarters. Dude would get 27 pts looking unstoppable after 3qtrs and then miss free-throws in the fourth. He was known as a choker back then.
The same shyt happened against the Spurs in 1999 (it was almost painful to watch Tyrone Lue and Kobe chucking it up late because of the hack-a-shaq).

Did you even watch basketball back then? Honestly? There were sports analysts that said Shaq was better. Just watch an old Lakers game with NBC and Tnt guys and you would see people saying that. Shaq came in 4th in the MVP race while missing 22 games in the regular season. That's basically unheard of. That should tell you all you need to know about Shaq's reputation back then. Lebron is called a choker too, but that doesn't stop people from saying he is the best. Shaq was ineffective in the 4th in some games from 00-02 too. He was still called the best.

Again stop with the revisionist history. Jordan probably was the better player, but to say he was by the far best is wrong.

What revisionism, idiot? Because Stu Lance said so during a telecast?
You're were probably 8 years-old back then. What the fukk do you know about it? Lebron is by far the best player despite his choking but guess what? Shaq was nowhere near that back in 1998. In fact, that Shaq wasn't much different from the 1997 or 1999 versions getting punked in the West by Karl Malone and Duncan.
He finished 4th in 98 and 6th in 99... yet, you're here arguing that he was the best player in the league? Something that you were way too young to even witness.
fukk outta here.

That stupid argument again. I saw that shyt in SOHH before.
So if MJ took 5 years off, he'd be 27 in "basketball years" in 1998? :laff:

it's not a stupid argument...in fact, it makes much sense

what's a stupid argument is that in the league for 17 years... KG still has 3 GREAT years in him, just cause he's ONLY 36.
