Having conversations with yourself is not a good thing and probably can help trigger mental illnesses. Excessive mind chatter can lead one down a dangerous path. Some religions like Buddhism teach you to quiet the mind to become one with self. Some people look at the "the voice in your head" as a metaphor the ego, the devil, bad conscious, etc... and think that it is crucial to quiet that inner voice as much as possible.
If you work on quieting your inner voice, no doubt, you will have more mental clarity. Once the mind is quiet, you will think much less, and just act. Conversations with self won't need to exist. It's not easy to quiet the mind, because of distractions like weed, tv, and shyt. But meditation is a great starting point.
