Do you think there will ever be a black atheist revolution?

OMG, I was just going to post this.

Back on topic:

I just will never understand how some people can complain about slavery and it's effects, but believe in a book that was forced upon us by slave masters :mindblown:

I really hope I'm alive to see a black atheist movement, or a movement away from organized religion at least.
I'm not a Christian, but there are certain things that just aren't true about religion and Christianity. Most of what you know was white washed.

I know this, and the white washed version is what I feel has been passed down. I was just too lazy to go into details. I guess I have to from now on so I'm not mistaken for being ignorant.

No harm, no foul. Many well-meaning, intelligent people have stated the same thing and will hold to it even though it's logically fallacious and historically false.

Black people of african descent didn't just start believing in god(s) or religion during slavery. We had that shyt in ancient times but without the whitewashing or arab/euro slave masters.

I dont believe atheism is the right answer (for black people), nor do i want to see an atheist revolution.
I'd rather we build our communities and businesses up, let go of white jesus, and stop being so trusting with these euroamerican scientists and the media. We can create our own education centers, produce our own scientists with our own technology and stop letting euroamericans have their hands in everything we do, or look for their stamp of approval. finally, we gotta stop letting them control and project the same 2 or 3 images of us to ourselves and the rest of the world. We gotta do our part and stop perpetuating these images, but i believe its more of an issue of the media putting shyt out there.

Once all these basics are taken care of, we'll have plenty of time to discuss whether or not theres a god, and how/if she affects our day to day lives

How is that a lie? African slaves first heard the bible from their masters reading it. Most couldn't read so they turned the verses they heard into spoken word and spirituals. Obviously they weren't FORCED into believing it or adopting it, but in a dark and depressing situation a book offering hope probably seems pretty attractive.

That's a nice way of looking at it, unfortunately reading to the slaves would prevent them from actually working and contrary to popular belief, most slavemasters (the men and women overseeing the slaves) were illiterate. Slave owners didn't read to them or quote scripture in their presence as there would be no point since they didn't consider their 'property' as humans or worthy of 'salvation'.

Africans first heard the Bible in West Africa from Portuguese missionaries in the 15th Century and already knew many of the characters from it due to Islam being the major religion for 800 years.

Pretty much everything you've said here is complete nonsense. :rudy:

Conversion to Christianity was a significant part of the process through which slave holders sought to make slaves compliant and the necessity of evangelising to the 'heathens' was initially given as a justification for the proliferation of the slave trade. Not to mention the fact that the bible was used to justify the enslavement of blacks stemming from the curse of Ham.

The overwhelming majority of transatlantic slaves would have had no idea about Christianity until they reached the Americas. Portuguese missionaries first made contact in the 16th century not the 15th and it wasn't with West Africa, it was with the Kongo, which is south-central.

Christianity and the Slave trade are intrinsically linked, you can't bs your way around that.

This will never happen because, to be frank, black people aint shyt :yeshrug:

Just look at the Coli...if you're black, you're expected to have the same thought process, opinions and philosophy about things. If not, you get called a c00n, when in fact c00ning is the other way around. If you're an independent free thinker with your own philosophies, you get shunned. Its like this in real life.

So, thats why. Black people aint shyt but some followers. Thats why this will never ever happen.

We would rather sit around and complain about white people causing our problems and then pray to the false god and read that retarded fiction book white people forced upon us for help. :snoop:

Actually, many slave owners encouraged a very particular form of Christianity among their slaves for the purposes of inculcating docility, especially during the Awakenings. That much is pretty well-documented. Thankfully, many slaves didn't just accept it wholesale and put their own spin on religion/pursued it independently.

So it's no deeper than black people are c00ns and aint sh1t in general?

Also, to be a free thinker you must be atheist? And if you're atheist, you are metaphorically hung from a tree by your own people?

Most atheist are normal people, just like religious people are mostly normal people - if you're being sh1tted on by 'what you consider' your own people, then maybe you should look at the other reasons why that could be the case.

What we really know is that knowledge of Christianity is down played in pre slavery Africa .

We also, know this thread is about atheist revolution (whatever the hell that would entail). These slaves weren't given their first Idea of God, many of them were Muslims, the rest believed in God() as well.

Religion and the African are intrinsically linked, you can't bs your way around that
