**WARNING*** IT'S A LONG ASS READ, SORRY :snoop: ******

was he dodging The Great One??:myman:

I've never completely bought that shyt about his back being tore up :comeon: i was reading Ric Flair's book a few days ago, and he said that he broke his back in THREE places in the infamous plane crash in 76' and was told by doctor's that he was never wrestle again....Flair was back wrestling again six months later :beli:

I don't know a whole lot about backs, but you mean to tell me a couple herniated discs kept that fakkit Shawn outta action for 4 years :comeon:

I always believed that his retirement had more to do with him being a spiraling drug addict more than anything, and he needed time to try and get clean. It's very interesting to know that his retirement coincided with the Attitude Era taking off with Rock and Stone Cold, and he returned The same month Austin "took his ball and went home" and The Rock was only wrestling a couple months out of the year. :beli:

It's also interesting that several years ago The Rock started saying in interviews that he was completely done with wrestling and retired, but months after Michaels retired, Rock comes back and says that he is back and never leaving again :why:

Also, The 7 years that he was away almost completely covers HBK's entire second stint in WWE. The only instances being the couple months in the summer of 02' when he returned for the Vengence 02' main event & the Summerslam main event with Brock, Then he was gone again for like 6 months and returned for a couple months as "Hollywood Rock" and then was gone for a year until Mania 20, then he was basically done besides some brief ppearances in the latter half of 04'.

That 4 year retirement i believe saved his life, he probably would've died if he kept going at the rate he was going. He missed out on the most profitable stint in WWE history :mindblown:

Is all this just a big coincidence?

It is :ohhh: when you think about it. One of the biggest stars in wrestling history never crossed paths with one of the best wrestlers in history...

Eh....you're forgetting when he came back as commissioner. That right there should show you how bad HBK wanted to be on TV, his ego wouldn't let Rock and Stone Cold shine if his back was 100%, even if he was pilled outta his bird.

I think in 99 he wrestled a match for his wrestling academy but I read he took lil to no bumps. HBK in his own academy not going all out to make it a classic is only because he had a bad back.

You could give the drugs 50% blame for his vacation but there's no question his back was shot.

He was/is a egomaniac like the best in the business usually are, no way he was healthy during the Attitude Era and scared of being less than Stone Cold and Rock. That probably only motivated him MORE

You could say he was scared to come back because he knew his top spot was taken.

You could say his back was so bad that he need 4 whole years to heal up.

You could say he wanted to get off the drugs and do some positive things in his life (find God, start wrestling school).

I just say he's Shawn Michaels and that there is the correct answer :troll:

HBK wouldve got that strap back in 98 had his back not been shot. Vince was way more loyal to Shawn than Austin then.

I've said this before, the BEST thing to happen to the WWF was for Michaels to dip. without him it allowed Vince to become Austin's main rival and the rest is history.

he did come back in 1998 though, multiple times and in particular as a part of the corporation before getting taken off of tv again.

but he needed to get his life together he was a drug addict
