you know there are so many cgi spectacles released in theaters these days that it becomes easy to get lost in them.

back in the day the big blockbuster spectacles that broke the special effects mold stood out more because they were 1 of 1's. when star wars came out there was nothing like it. when jurrassic park came out there was nothing like it. but now there's like 20-30 of those movies being released each year. almost every other week sees the release of a huge extravaganza type flick with glorious visuals and effects. it's become the norm.

but because these movies have become so commonplace i think it's easy to take them for granted. so often i see people shyt on cgi and yet i bet you if you took a movie like Transformers or GOTG... or really ANY of the modern day tentpole movies... and showed them to audiences 25-30 years ago it would probably blow their fukkin minds.

we are living in a golden age of spectacle film entertainment. i just wish more people would appreciate it is all.

enjoy it people.

Back in the day special effects/cgi didn't compromise the movies story or script. Nowadays they think because the CGI is top notch, viewers don't deserve a decent script and story. If hollywood didn't take us for idiots, then maybe we won't take their movies for granted.

Story, Script >> CGI

no, I don't think people take the actual cgi work for granted...people know it takes time, effort, smarts, etc. to put a lot of the shyt we see on screen....and that's appreciated.....but people do take the movies for granted cause cgi is all a lot of the movies nowadays relay on....like @Uncle_Ruckus said: it's like studios are basically saying fukk a script and story, give them cgi, they'll be happy.....as cgi has gotten better, a lot of the other aspects (script, directing, story, acting, etc.) has gotten worse in movies....it's not a coincidence that tv is dominating the way it is right now....they've taken the other aspects and let them thrive....

are you suggesting that cgi has led to a higher percentage of bad movies being released?

TV shows = The new movies.

I can't even remember the last time I went to the movies. Every film now is 2hrs plus with most of the movie being in cgi and a bunch of product placements and starring someone from this new generation of bad actors. Not to mention the ripoff ticket prices.

Cause from the cgi movies I have seen (ie godzilla) thinking they'd be good I was totally let down so I avoid them as much as possible. Like I said in the summer movies thread. I cant even name 5 movies I've seen that came out this year. I never finished cap 2, but liked 22 jump street. Only really good movie I remember seeing this year was Enemy.
