I was once leaving a strip club and just walked by someone else leaving and he asked if I wanted to try some blow . . my paranoid moment happened when I realized I was in an abandoned building around the corner from Hollywood Blvd doing coke with a stranger who was going out of his way to act like a thug . . I would focus in on a rapid succession of thoughts and then realize I was actually closing my eyes and going into a sleeping state, I snapped awake and was like "I gotta get going". I've already done shrooms a few times and salvia. The point is these drugs aren't recreational like coke. you're not going to the club, chillin in VIP off some LSD man, I mean you can but.....

Also, I'm not sure if MIT students (or college students in general) are the kind of people you want to be emulating. Like, have you seen these people? No doubt a number of them are tweakers.
