I think the thread title is going to be confusing to some people, and might have some unfortunate unintended consequences if it isn't changed. The fact that people think voting is this byzantine process is one of the main deterrents to voting.

If are are registered to vote, you're registered to vote. You DO NOT HAVE TO RE-REGISTER just because it's been a while since the last time you voted. HOWEVER, because of all the voter registration fukkery going on in OH, PA, FL, TX, etc, it's IMPORTANT TO CONFIRM that you are, in fact, registered.

YOU CAN CONFIRM THAT YOU ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE AT Can I Vote? | Find Out If You Are Registered to Vote

The deadline to register to vote is different depending on your state, but if you do it before October you should be safe.

Welp I'd vote Obama and live in Texas . No point
The congressional races are JUST AS IMPORTANT. The Republicans have control of the House, and this makes is very difficult for Obama to get his initiatives through. It's unlikely that the Dems will take the House in November, but it's impossible if people like you don't go out and vote.

Voting is fun. You get to pretend you are a part of some world changing event, then you walk out of the polling place and nothing changes. Then society gives you a big pat on the back for participating in the process. Overall i give voting a 8/10.

i understand ur sarcasm....but at the end of the day, alot of black ppl were bit by dogs, sprayed with hoses, beaten by cops, and some even killed.....just so we could have a right to be heard.

Whether or not you agree with the effect of voting in 2012, you should at least have respect for that.

I'd vote for Obama if I were in a swing state and my vote actually mattered just in an attempt to prevent Mitt Mormoney from winning. I live in the only democrat dominant city in Kentucky and the rest is repub retards who make my vote useless.

Your vote still counts. The only way Kentucky will ever be a battleground state is if enough democrats go to the polls and at least show their prescense and willingness to vote. I live in Ohio. Back in 04 it was considered a deep red state. Now it is a battleground state. All because people went and made their voices heard. If democrats see that Kentucky people are willing to support them, then they will spend more time and money in Kentucky making it a battleground state. If anything it will make republicans spend money on votes they shouldn't have to. By not voting your giving them free votes on a platter.

The only democrats in our entire state are in Louisville, and Louisville always is a blue voting city. It's always our blue surrounded by red. And no candidates ever campaign here because we're not worth anything electoral votes wise and we aren't a battleground state. My voice is truly useless not to mention I'd only be voting democrat so Mitt Mormoney doesn't become president, not because I particularly like the democrats. I think the whole political system is stupid.

There are other things on the ballot besides the presidential election. And things change, you would be better off to be proactive now and show them you have a voice than to wait until they come around to looking for your voice.

In Texas you can get jury duty if you meet the requirments of registering to vote.
