Do You Have To Sleep 7-8 Hours At A Time?

Or is sleeping for four hours a couple of times a day just the same? Or does your body need to sleep seven or eight hours at night for it to be at its optimum?

I've spent the last year going to sleep at around 2am-5am and waking up around 11 or 12 or 1pm, but now I'm trying to get used to waking up every morning at 6 and it's been fukking with me.

It goes either way for me. I can take naps throughout the day or sleep for 7 hours and wake up before 10am. The naps are weird though...waking up at 2am and then going back to sleep at 6am usually has me like :blink: but it doesn't affect my energy/focus.

i used to do 4 and 4. sleep between 5am and 9am...go to school...go back to sleep from 3pm til 7pm. i felt fine. you only need a couple hours of deep sleep...just usually takes hours to get into that zone.

nah you need them 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep. soemthing bout the REM cycle and stuff, I'm too lazy to look it up tho.

Your right that the REM cycle is the most important cycle, your wrong about 7 hours tho. You dont need 8 hours of sleep. You only need about 3-4 hrs of REM sleep. The 8 hr (monophasic) sleep cycle is the most common sleep cycle but there are 4 others that actually dont waste as much time sleeping as the monophasic and provides the same "sleep/rest" benefits as the 8hr monophasic cycle.

There isnt sufficient scientific explanation for why we sleep. *There also isn't a scientific explanation as to why ice is slippery and how a bicycle works(shyt was made using trial and error)

Yea I need at least 7 hrs of sleep or I'll be a little groggy in the morning. I think it has to do with my quality of sleep, or lack therof.


I think I might get one of those memory foam pillows and eventually a memory foam pad for my bed. I heard that shyt works wonders as far as improving your quality of sleep.

any sleep longer than 7-8 hours makes me feel groggy all day. i usually get 5-6 on work nights and like 7 on the weekends

I can get by on less but I'll be groggy. Especially around 3-4pm...that three o'clock crash is no joke... :smh:

your brain and body do different things throughout your sleep cycle.
i would imagine that cutting that process off before it is done is not good.
however i remember hearing somewhere that Leonardo DaVinci slept for a couple of hours at a time throughout a 24 hour day so he could experience more of the day.
