Did he? His 3 biggest fights, he was the "B" side in negotiations (vs Paul WillIams, JCC Jr, and Cotto)

Remember, you're comparing him to Manny level of super stardom. Sergio has never been a super star in the sport.

Yes but that is why I said Sergio became a star, not superstar. I was only making the point about the age.
the Oscar fight help propel manny into superstardom

Forgot about Oscar

I think he can reach Cotto level stardom if he keeps on knocking everyone out. Floyd and Manny had Oscar to propel them into an audience that never watched them previously. There's no one for GGG out there that could do that.

That's the other thing I think about. I became a Manny hater in 2003 when he defeated my all time favorite fighter Marco Antonio Barerra :to: I was watching the fight like :damn:. Manny fought barrera, morales, cotto, mosley, hatton, margarito, marquez--all greats. I'm probably missing a name or two
Sorry but it is funny how Mayweather haters say he hasn't fought anybody. However, Pacquiao's resume is somewhat better.

Pacquiao's resume IS better.

You see the names you left out of bold (barrera and morales) were in their primes and are HOF fighters. Pacquiao beat them multiple times, plus he beat a Prime Antonio Margarito (who would've had to have plaster in his gloves against Manny as well since he tried it against Mosley with Pac being the much bigger fight).....but this isnt the thread for Manny vs Floyd discussion.

GGG isnt gonna reach Super Stardom, but I do believe he can be a PPV fighter shortly

hell no

Boxing is a niche sport. It's extremely hard to become a draw. It will be hard as hell for him to just get a PPV fight, let alone becoming a fighter with the popularity of a Pacquaio.

Mayweather & Pacquaio are the only 2 guys that consistently fight on PPV

Cotto still has to have the right opponent to justify putting it on a PPV

Canelo is one major loss away from fighting on regular cable.

The rest who are fortunate enough to get on PPV, it was the right fight.

Now he can become successful in his own right, but asking if he'll achieve the popularity of a Pacquaio is extreme. He may be fortunate enough to get on PPV with the right fight (Cotto, JCC Jr).

GGG will be a star, but he won't be a superstar.

Prolly never reach a Manny, Floyd, Tyson, Holyfield, Oscar type level.

He'll prolly end up being a notch or two below. Meaning he'd draw some decent to big crowds and will gather a following and get good tv ratings, but never really be a true ppv player.

Won't write him off completely since in boxing anything can happen

I don't think he'll reach that stage because he's missing a few things that Manny had going for him. He's missing the De La Hoya stardom level opponent to expose him to a huge audience. He's missing the dream heel opponent that Manny had in Floyd. In a lot of ways I always thought that part of the Manny hype was that he was seen as the one who will be able to finally shut up and take down Floyd. And like somebody mentioned he doesn't have a huge pockets of die hards here in the states.
