I'm watching this postfight interview with GGG after the Geale fight. Man, in terms of star power, he has everything going for him: humble, charming, "nice", great smile, and extraordinary knockout power. He doesn't have the asian/filipino following Manny did, just because Kazakhstan doesn't have that kind of presense, esp not in the states, but I don't know if that will hold him back. His biggest obstacle is the middleweight division; there are a lot of names there, but outside of Cotto, how many stars are there in that division? Fortunately for GGG, it appears that there are other guys who will be coming up to 160 (Canelo) and who will be hovering around 160 (Chavez), that he can fight. It'd be nice to see Canelo become a mega star (which I doubt happens), so that he and GGG could come together and have a mega fight.

ANyways, what yall think?

Nope, because you have to face the elite competition to do what Manny did.....and I dont see GGG being able to accomplish that.

He would have to dominate 160, 168, and 175 over the next 4-5 years, and I dont see it happening with him already being 32 years old:manny:

Manny's run is not able to be duplicated, because I dont think GGG is willing to face any and all challengers like Manny was.

That's the other thing I think about. I became a Manny hater in 2003 when he defeated my all time favorite fighter Marco Antonio Barerra :to: I was watching the fight like :damn:. Manny fought barrera, morales, cotto, mosley, hatton, margarito, marquez--all greats. I'm probably missing a name or two

that was a total shock to my senses...it wasnt even a cheap or lucky win...he dominated him from start, multiple KD's, and thrashed him..MAB was still in prime and a top P4P at the time...pure star making performance

Breh, I swear to you not, that was a weird night. I was sitting here thinking Barerra was going to steamroll this guy. I had never heard of Pacquaio. I remember looking at my friend like :jawalrus:, now you're going to learn about a real sport :obama:. 5 rounds in I was like :mindblown: :wtf:  :to: Barerra just couldn't avoid that straight left.

Sergio reached stardom at an old age :patrice:

Did he? His 3 biggest fights, he was the "B" side in negotiations (vs Paul WillIams, JCC Jr, and Cotto)

Remember, you're comparing him to Manny level of super stardom. Sergio has never been a super star in the sport.
