Domestic cats are basically little tigers. They're predators to the core. You let a house cat outside and it's fukking up the local wildlife.
Dogs not so much. They've lost most of that predatory capacity. They're relegated to digging through dumpsters and begging people.
some dogs are pretty good at catching critters. my mom had a beagle that would catch and kill all kinds of shyt. a lot of those smaller dogs were bred to be "ratters"

As an animal rights activist I don't have an issue with house dogs at all, the history between humans and dogs goes back thousands of years.
I do have problems with continuing the practice of breeding certain dogs. We're basically creating animals that can't function properly just because, and to be honest 99% of the market for this is women, people think they're cute. These same people love their dogs to death, don't get me wrong - but they're putting them through unnatural lives and unnecessary pains for the sake of aesthetics.
Finally - looking at the whole scope of animal cruelty, house dogs are, bar none, last on the list of priorities. Like people say most of them live the life. We can sit here and philosophize on their roots and ancestry and relation to wolves and coyotes and whatnot but take any housedog, drop them off in the jungle and they'll get back in your car on some "

The evolution of housedogs, and cats who I would say have it slightly worse due to the practises of de-nailing them and the amount of desertions/wildcats we still have, is quite natural and way less 'forced' then people might believe. The unhealthiest breed is probably the English bulldog since it requires artificial insemination, c-section, and its deformed facial structure causes the most health issues out of all the breeds. English bulldog ownership and breeder ship is hardly gendered.
Poodles and chihuahua selection tends to be more female, but they don't really have breed specific health issues. Besides, blaming the consumer doesn't make sense here. Do you blame the consumer for the continuation of unethical Nike shoe production despite accusations of using underpaid or child labor to create the shoes, or do you place responsibility on Nike leadership, or both?
I could see if you placed blame on puppy mills ( again, not gendered ), since they are profit based, but in general, women will find puppies, regardless of breed, to be cute.
