For as long as I've been alive Republicans have been fear mongering about the national debt. Do you actually think we are in any sort of danger with the obvious exception of not raising the debt ceiling and defaulting?

It’s an absurd talking point. Your personal debt and the national debt aren’t the same. In fact having 0 national debt is a bad thing for the economy
I completely agree. I hate that people allow Republicans to control the narrative on this issue especially when you consider they do more to add to the debt.

The Republican talking point about the national debt depends on the ignorance of the American people concerning how national economies work to be effective.

If the US dollar was still bound to gold, then the talking point would be a real concern. Since it is not, the only real worries about the amount of money the government is spending should be focused on how it directly affects the inflation rate. Too much expansion in the money supply (government spending) will cause prices to rise due to there being more money chasing after the same amount of goods, is the only real concern the US government should have.

Trump's tax plan added $2T to the national debt

Why is it impt? Bc too much will lead to even more inflation, it will limit economic growth and the govt will have less resources to allocate to social programs.

The way to bring down national debt is to fix the tax code and drive innovation that will bring in more revenue.
