You’re not going to weed out the ignorant and low vibrational.

The rise and invention smartphones and social media just made what was once whispered around the ice cooler, in break rooms, at family dinners, and at bonfires more out in the open.

The ignorance was always there though.

Simple proposition.

I think the average person has become more stupid, rude, and overall worse because social media rewards whatever behavior increases engagement with the platform. Someone writing a thoughtful comment may get noticed and liked, but someone writing a stupid comment will also get noticed(but for the wrong reasons) people's reactions to that comment increases engagement which gives an incentive for the commenter to double down on their stupidity since they're receiving both validation in the form of likes and responses.

I think social media has become like a form of the matrix. People choose to live in an alternate reality where the earth is flat, people's beliefs before the existence of the scientific method and germ theory are to be taken more seriously, and various convicted criminals and pedophiles are to be trusted to lead a country over people with experience. They choose to live in a reality where most women look like models, and most men earn an absurd amount of money and are built like D1 athletes.

Then when they unplug and have to actually interact with people in the real world, there's a kind of dissonance and yearning for the fakeness.
Yes it should be monitored. Deaths and murders and destructive behaviors shouldn’t do numbers. Just like how they were able to censor things related to Covid, they can do the same with garbage

This would have needed to be implemented over a decade ago, no point now.
Yeah, when true stories were getting censored and people who posted them banned people told me, "It's a private company, they can do what they want." Now that it's working in a way you don't like doesn't mean this doesn't apply.

I like how social media has leveled the playing field, and gives everyone a chance. But it's also a curse. It gives dangerous people a chance too.

It has given dropouts and special ed kids a voice. And these people usually compensate for their dumbness with personality, so it's a recipe for disaster.

Anybody saying “no” doesn’t appreciate what has just happened with the election.

Propaganda is being used at unprecedented levels to manipulate the uneducated and educated alike. Left to run rampant, powerful bad actors will continue to leverage it to push policies that line their pockets whilst harming the masses.

Social media has regulations/controls from the companies themselves, but it's probably the thing itself that is at the heart of the problem.

1) It's pretty misleading to say stupid people have always existed, therefore it changes nothing:

2) it collapsed the context in which stupid things were said

3) it elevated the context in which stupid things were said

4) it validated that stupid things were said

5) it provided instant and accessible reward system for saying stupid shyt

that's just one thing. but it's not even really about 'stupid people' or 'stupid things' being said, it's the mechanism itself. I don't think social media makes anyone smarter. Watching 20 second videos about Gaza or about oil prices doesn't add to your intelligence. Then there is the social/human connection aspect. A whole other part of the puzzle.

Instead of nominating a better candidate. Or actually listening to voters. Democrats want to ban free speech instead.
