Ultimately it depends on the individuals and the nature of their relationship...

For me personally, I gotta go with the fam. Even though I don't really fit in with the rest of my fam, they've been the ones that were there when I needed support while my "friends" were no where to be found.

Blood can do you just as dirty, as quickly and as easily. Only difference is when it's blood it hurts a lot more :yeshrug:

Easily yes for me, my fam is close knit, and that extends to cousins, uncles, etc. Every since ive graduated college, ive been spending a lot of time with my fam, and been seeing how down they are compared to some of my friends who ive grown up with. I love my friends but i can't really count on them to be there while further myself in my career or life in generally. Usually nikkas wanna talk about trivial shyt.

Blood is thicker. When you and your friends grow apart, you toss them in the bushes.

You can toss your family in the bushes too but, you're just kidding yourself. They'll always be your blood.

For the most part, I can't stand my middle sister.

But she's my sister and that will never change and no matter how much we don't get along, I'd bust a nikka's head for her.

For me, yes.

Family means the world to me, and I thank God everyday that I come from a good family that will have my back no matter what. I will do anything for my family.

No.

And actually believing such a dumb saying only leaves you open to manipulation from those you think should have your back simply because you and them are "family".

They're just people like everybody else until they prove otherwise.

Be a fukking cocksucker and think to yourself "well my family is great and honorable so therefore ALL families must be like that!" after reading what I typed.

Um I hate to be the one, but this is probably one of the most misunderstood quotes ever. The original proverb was "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." And it's basically saying how the bonds that you make with friends are stronger than those of family (like a lot of yall are saying lol).

Exactly. A good friend of mine had an opportunity for years to become a business partner with a guy he knew. For years his family all of them brothers, sister, mom, dad, grandparents, uncles were like "Nah son, dont do it, blood is thicker than water...listen to us. We only want whats best for you. We're family we know whats best for each other." This went on for about 3 years while my boy Sean worked a couple of stupid jobs and was going to school, he had no girl and was generally unhappy, you could see it on his face. And his family was consistently in his ear. His potential business partner was like "Hey man whenever you decide to come aboard your place is always welcome." Anyway my boy Sean took a risk and it paid off. within 6-8 months he was pullin in 80 grand and after about a year he was easily doin 120..he and his business venture because pretty public. He was and still is on the news every so often givin back to the community and organizing stuff. Needless to say he's happy as hell, he's doing what he's wanted to do since he was 11 years old.

His family though...they dont really fukk with him like that anymore. He's never rubbed it in their face or said "I told you so" or "You were wrong" and he aint flashy either...drives a 2006 camry...After he made the decision to try to do what he wanted he told me his pops said "Go ahead, do what you want to do :manny:" and since then they dont really fukk with him. They never ask about his job or how he's doin, theyve never been to his house which he's had for almost 5 years. His fukkin brother is a chump, wont even let him babysit/watch his kid, but will let everyone else in the family do so. :smh:

Its wild because me and him have been gettin close since he really aint got family anymore. His grandma passed in Oct 2012, and my boy found a family photo with him, his brothers and sister, mom and dad and both sets of grandparents. He found someone to blow it up and have it framed (a really nice frame) he gave it to his parents/family at Christmas 2012---I guess its sittin in their garage uncovered has dust and oil stains on it and might even have a hole in it. :smh: The nikka broke down on me when he told me that around 4th of July....like they really dont fukk with him like that. He kind of thought it was in his head because nobody has blatantly said anything to him or acknowledged why they treat him like they do..they never called him for thanksgiving. He was telling me he wouldnt even be mad if they asked him for money or argued with him or blatantly ignored him, they just dont fukk with him at all. His dumb ass brother didnt invite him to his own nephews birthday. If it werent for me and a couple other people dude would be out on his own. He had a decent girl for a minute but he cut that off because he could never introduce her to his family because they aint fukkin with him...we were talkin the other day he said hes going to give it until Spring of 2014 and if shyt hasnt changed with them he's just gonna stop fukkin with them, stop showing up on moms birthday and christmas and all that just fukk'em be an orphan and just move on with his life.

I know this but we have changed the meaning of the quote in this century.
