Do you believe in taking any job just to pay the bills?

Long story short lost my job a few months ago. It was a product analyst job for the state. Been landing interviews but not the job. I get that some money is better than none. But I also believe in taking jobs that's going to help Elevate you. That you can put on your resume. If I sit here and get a job at Walmart or Target then I'm going to get pigeonholed and the only jobs that's going to look at me are retail or warehouse jobs. Plus I need a good paying job just to afford all my bills.

First off, you say you worked for The State... has your unemployment ran out?

I was just like you some years back-- not off any credentials, but what I achieved. Once the benefits ran out I took the first job that said "You're hired"-- and they understood its only temporary, until I could get to where I am now.

Don't overanalyze this. Your situation is NOT unique for Recruiters and Management before anyone else, and they'll appreciate the honesty. Too many b*stards onboard, string them along, and dip without notice (or DO something for immediate termination) for them to not respect it.

If you’re in a bind with bills hanging over your head then you got to do what’s got to be done while looking for a better situation

1.If you don't want to put those jobs on your resume, replace with taking online classes and actively applying for employment or Volunteer work
to fill in the gap.

2. work at the shyt job and continue apply for the the job you want.

If you were a product analyst you should be able to get something quickly. Secondly why don’t you call your College/University career center?

They should be able to hook you up with something in the meantime.

Yeah, if the unemployment ran out and you don't want to hit up your 401(k) or savings, you gotta find something to pay off your basic needs. It shouldn't be this way, but employers are serious about job gaps being a red flag. The harder question is finding a job that will give you enough hours and wages to pay your bills and won't take a long time to onboard you.

This is a complicated question.

If you take anything you might miss something in a few weeks that was opening up that was better.

Right now after the election, companies seem to be hiring more.

I think this is why people choose to go into trades. You don't have to worry about finding work, you can just pick the work that you want to do.
