I believe Nuclear power is a viable stop-gap in energy production between moving from fossil fuels to renewables. Right now, renewables do not create enough sustained energy to maintain the growing energy needs of many of the world's nations. Eventually, we will have to move towards figuring out how to capture more of the energy given off by our Sun and also the energy given off by the Earth's weather system. The radioactive component of Nuclear power makes it a poor choice to service energy needs in the long run.

Sabine Hossenfelder has a good YouTube video on nuclear power. Another issue is there isn’t that much uranium available so it will never be a huge part of power generation

Seems like the best option in the short term, until renewables can produce more energy.

The US government has had nuclear powered ships since the 50s, and each aircraft carrier has a crew of over 5k people. Nuclear power is safe and reliable. They are perfect in the short term as the grid transitions.

The only real issue is nuclear waste storage.
