Yes. There isn't one director I'd put definitively over QT, even 70s Coppola. He has a great batting average and made one of the GOAT films (Pulp Fiction).

:picard:

Coppola directed The Godfather 1 and 2 AND Apocalypse Now tho! :damn:
Tarantino ain't got no films of that magnitude in his catalog; not on THAT level:wow:

Coppola didn't have as long of a great run but man, the quality of the those films he put out during his peak is among the best!

I wouldn't hate on anyone having him in there, but he's like top 15/20 or sth for me. Love his flicks tho.

Coppola to me is top 5 without a doubt. I'm just saying Pulp Fiction is right up there with the Godfathers, even over Goodfellas.

Oh, Coppola is in your top 5 too? :myman:
I respect your opinion but I disagree with Pulp being up there with the Godfathers and Godfellas
I don't think Pulp is anywhere close to being up there the Godfathers 1 and 2 or Goodfellas.

In the 90's, it seemed like Tarantino was heading down that path. He was crowned a little too early. His 1st 2 movies killed with RD and then Pulp.

Afraid to branch out due to the lukewarm reception to Jackie Brown. Even that wasn't a drastic departure. But people wanted more movies along the lines of Pulp.

He has been kinda staying in the Pulp Fiction lane ever since.

Movies are way too long. His movies drag on and on with dialogue, which is his crutch.

Reservoir Dogs - was his best movie (most would say PF, but RD is right up there). Great dialogue. All the Tarantino'isms, and it was under 2 hrs.

His movies feel more like glorified plays, than movies. His movies don't feel directed like a lot of live-action films, if that make sense.

Has made great casting choices over the years. That has been his saving grace.

Just look at IB and all the good foreign actors in that. :whoo:

His movie quality has declined. Didn't see the H8. Had no interest. :manny:

But isn’t flipping old gems dope in sampling?

I don’t see how that’s a bad thing.

Especially when, just like in sampling with music, you put a whole new generation on to a classic of they pay attention.

Tarintino will have a youngin in the VHS crates.

I said it's like sampling but the major difference is sampling in hip-hop was born out of necessity....obviously it became an artform unto itself....but my point is at no point in QT's career did he have to jack scenes, dialogue, musical ques, etc. from other movies. He basically came into the game from day 1 stealing shyt. I'm a fan of his work but I wouldn't put him anywhere near a top 5 list.

His long time editor (since "Reservoir Dogs") died a few years ago and his last couple movies since then ("Django Unchained", "The Hateful 8") have been bloated messes.

Sally Menke's editing was mainly responsible for making Tarantino's films cohesive. Now, the scenes just go on and on.

this is mainly because coppola's movies are a lot grander in scope and are a lot deeper thematically.

look at the movies QT's movies, he ain't tryna make some deep philosophical offering.

reservoir dogs is not as 'meaty' as the godfather but i'll be damned if QT isn't a master story teller both visually and stylistically. if someone wants to argue that reservoir dogs is better purely on the basis that it's more entertaining, i can respect that. they are two toally different kinds of film experiences.

i wonder if one day QT will direct someone else's screenplay and NOT make some crazy, violent off the wall shyt. when that rumor sprung up that he could be making a star trek movie i got real excited!

QT is more style over substance, but in that regard he puts mostly everyone to shame.
