Brothers often complain about sisters wearing fake hair. Yet, they don't realize that, due to the lack of trustworthy information on Afro-textured hair, many sisters resort to weaves out of frustration and desperation. Although The Long Hair Care Forum provides excellent information on black hair care, navigating the site can be tricky and overwhelming.

Luckily, two years ago, a beautiful sister named Audrey Davis-Sivasothy wrote "The Science of Black Hair."

That book provides a wealth of information on caring for Afro-textured hair. Indeed, it delves into the science of our hair (ie--its molecular structure, how perms work, scalp function, importance of pH, protein-moisture balance, etc).

So, rather than griping about sisters wearing weaves, how about asking a library near you to purchase "The Science of Black Hair?" If you are in college or know someone who is, perhaps you could get the college library to add the book to its collection. Libraries are very, very amenable to purchase requests. Alternatively, you could just buy the book yourself and donate it to the library. So far, I've gotten 3 local libraries to add it to their collections--it's a lot easier than you think.

My larger point is that we (black people) must be encouraging and empathetic toward one another--not fault-finding and critical. I know how difficult that can be at first, but it's ultimately the best way to build up our communities.

Fellas,

PM me if you have any questions about making purchase requests at libraries.

Please keep me updated--don't leave me hanging.

Pretty much, that's why I don't care anymore :manny::

Black women are right, they can do whatever they want with their hair and we as black men don't have the right to tell them what to do.

But in that same token I have the right to not want to deal with it and that's exactly what I'm gonna do, so do ya'll brehettes :ehh:

And this is why I don't take these nikkas seriously when they talk about how they prefer black women with natural hair, but steady posting pics of biracials with curly hair.

You see how most men post pics of curly hair when they talk about natural hair that they find beautiful. Majority of black woman don't have curly hair like that yet we're supposed to take them seriously with this natural >>> weave stance they have.

Not completely true. Ladies with dreadlocks and large afros are posted as well. However, it takes YEARS time to grow your hair that long. You don't remove hair extensions and/or stop perming your hair and you'll suddenly look like Lauryn Hill. It takes time.
