the older i get, the more i begin to realize that worst and most dangerous forms of racism don't come in the overt shyt like a republican candidate sayin somethin off the wall and asinine, it comes in subtleties we never take the time out to pay attention to or even question. take the sports industry for example.
i got a lot i'd like to say but i'll try to keep it pretty general to start and expand as needed. first off
remember that we live in country where once, as slaves, we were seen as physically superior, but intellectually inferior to white people
we make up only 12% of the population. thats total, yet we're 60 some odd percent of the nfl, 80% of the league... stop and really think those numbers. the idea that we could be that much more athletic than people who outnumber us 5 times over is just bullshyt
basketball, football (and track) are not the end all be all to athleticism. they're 2 sports. but thats what we're led to believe... the us took first place in the 08 olympics, competing against athletes across with world and it wasn't solely on the backs of black athletes, yet we're the "true athletes"
recognize the fact that the sports world is owned, operated, coached, etc by and large by white people. these are the people who ultimately choose who you watch on tv. what were once all white leagues are now dominated by black men and it began in the midst of a racist, segregated country... you can say its "cuz we're just more athletic" if you want, but i'd like to think we were just exploited as the newest form of minstrel show type attraction. we only dominate in run-based sports (football, basketball, track)
white children are taught that their athletically inferior, and as a result rarely effort into becoming a star player. for them sports are something to do "for fun" while you're in school. black children are taught that by virtue, their skin color makes them a better athlete and now you have a generation funneling their work ethic into the pipe dream of becomin the next kobe or calvin johnson. school is somethin you have to do while workin your way into the league. its nyggas out there that truly see sports as their only way outta the hood...
without realizin it, we've given into the notion that we're intellectually inferior and athletically superior. if someone said the same shyt about how strong and fast and how high a slave could jump in the 1800s it'd be taken as racism, but put a ball in his hands in 2012 and suddenly this is somethin to be embraced... its nothin wrong with bein athletic but there is somethin wrong with accounting it to bein black. not tryna bash on white people at all, just the sports industry
