I mean I always knew there' a bunch of weirdo cacs in competitive online gaming, but do shooters generally bring out the worst in people? or do fighting games and MOBA's have even worse online communities?

FGC (Fighting Game Community) used to be really bad and still can be in a number of ways. It's somewhat gotten better over time tho.
