Do people in Brooklyn actually root for the Nets?

I'm from and I live in Brooklyn and to this day I have yet to see someone walk around in a nets jersey. This city will always be knicks territory.

but unless you are going to a game wearing a jersey gay af

If Brownsville nikkas packed the Barclays :wow:

FALSE
Just like any city, NY rocks w/ winners, people will hop on if they're constant title contenders. I haven't seen so many Mets gear til they made the WS, and folks were flocking on the Jets when they made those AFC Title games. There was interest in the Nets when Jay and the new arena popped up. they just need a couple of title runs to be the toast of the town,

You're talking casual fans but you need a large regular base as well or it means nothing

Nets fanbase is miniscule. The Mets and Jets have a much much bigger fanbase aside from the bandwagon era who jumped on during the playoffs

True, but it's not like the Knicks have this illustrious history like the Lakers or Celtics, so there's room for the Nets audience to grow. If the Nets get a superstar( a stanable player like Curry; AI, Kobe, Jordan, Bron, etc) player or two and go on a chip run, I could see young folks rocking with the Nets. Most people born in the 90's or later have seen the Knicks as either horrible(Layden/Isiah years) or treadmill(Melo run), so they haven't seen the "glory" years with Ewing. You gotta remember most young children(8 or younger) give two shyts about team loyalty, it's all about which team is winning and has that superstar. If the Nets get that, then you'll see a new generation of Brooklyn fans sprout out of nowhere.

The Nets are never going to win over adult fans who already have allegiances to other teams

However, by going on a run, they can win over a generation of young kids who can grow up to become their core fanbase

I just think the move to Brooklyn was a bad idea in general. The Knicks branding is so huge that they fill MSG even in crappy years while the Nets have empty seats at playoff games

It's about branding more than actual results

The Knicks brand is firmly embedded in New York sports culture. They're New York's team. The Nets can carve out a niche but they're never unseating the Knicks.

It's like hockey fans on HFBoards who thinks a 2nd team in Toronto who wins can unseat the Leafs. It doesnt matter how bad a team is, it's about branding.

Brooklyn doesn't deserve a team. Not gentrified Brooklyn anyway. Most true Brooklynites can't afford to go to games. They thought that gentrified Brooklyn (transplants) would benefit the nets, but it's backfired. If this was early 2000s, or 90s BK? shyt would be lit. But you can't price out natives and still expect them to support.

What about the Islanders?
Thats a niche sport to begin with breh. I'll see random Rangers Jerseys but if they go on a run it will be crazy just like 1994. 1 million people showed up for a hockey team parade so I'm guessing they will do numbers like that if they go all the way.
