as good as Cole is RIGHT NOW, it's really not smart for Houston to lock him in long term. those long term contracts to pitchers who are around 30 years old rarely works out in a teams favor.

mainly however in Houston's current situation they are already so stacked with talent that they're not going to be able to afford every one of them. one or two will be left out. it's a good "problem" to have

all of the homegrown talent are already locked in long term or will be in the near future. guys like Verlander and Greinke are locked in short term (two more years each). it's not smart to lock in a pitcher making $35-40 million annually for 7 years or something crazy like Cole will get.

After ‘21 JV and Grienke will be off the books. That’s 57 million. Correa will be a FA.
If they want to make it work for Cole they gotta back load that contract.

James just has to get his control issues down. He just wants to blow people away. If he would throw strikes then he would be able to do it. Since she’s always behind in the count all they gotta do is sit on that FB.

Yeah that’s his problem. He can never get enough good counts to establish his wipe out slider because he’s concentrating on throwing his first pitch fb at 110mph and he usually misses.

Basically. If we get lucky we can do a non tender then sign him to a 2 year on the el cheapo and stash him in AAA or something. He has + stuff and with our coaching and training staff he can be really good. He didn’t have enough time to get acclimated to our program and our med staff def didn’t get enough time with him to get a read on his health
