What went on up there? Poppers and weird sex!
The show was supposed to end after season three, but Sony Pictures wanted more episodes. Adult Swim gave Aaron McGruder an order of 20 episodes for a fourth season.
Carl Jones, a longtime producer of the show, was working on Black Dynamite at the same time and Aaron didn't like it. Jones said he could work on both shows but Aaron said it was either Boondocks or Black Dynamite. They had a falling out and Jones left the show. It hurt because Jones apparently did a lot of work for The Boondocks that Aaron had to take on himself.
Sony Pictures wanted Aaron to write three episodes a week on top of the work he had to take over from Jones, but he couldn't write that fast. The season was taking really long to finish and I believe Aaron had to go to the hospital for exhaustion. Sony was getting irritated with the delays so they had to cut their losses and take only ten episodes. Aaron got fired from the show and his agent made Sony take his name off all the episodes. It's possible that Aaron did work on these episodes, but we'll never know how much work he did or if he even worked on them at all. Angela Nissel was hired as a writer, but I don't know she was Aaron's replacement or she was just a new staff writer that had to take a bigger role after Aaron was fired.
At the end of the day, it was a combination of Sony's greed, Carl Jones leaving, and Aaron's writing process clashing with what Sony wanted that led to the last season of The Boondocks being trash. Even Regina King and John Witherspoon are on record saying the show turned to shyt and it wasn't the same anymore.
