This was the first reference I ever saw/heard/read about the roots of hip hop. I don't know if people didn't try to refute what Just was saying because they were scared of him, but have never heard anybody challenge his take.
The names he listed pop up when most pioneers speak of the origins of hip hop, a few of them are featured in this thread being interviewed.


*oh, and Just is from Brooklyn, so it's not a matter of him rooting for his local heroes or not being aware of other scenes in other boroughs

One of the most interesting things I picked up from pioneer interviews and clips is that many of them dabbled in OTHER elements of hip hop before they became legends in what they are known for.

Caz used to be a DJ for example. Kay Slay was a grafitti artist back in the day. Heard for years that he was featured in Style Wars as Dezzy Dez.
