mulan had as much or less magic than princess and the frog though. the only magic elements were the ancestors and mushu.

Eh, I think they were well intentioned. I think they tried to make her an American princess without taking fully into account the dark history of early 20th Century African Americans. To be honest, I was ok with the dark tone of the movie, it was no darker than Alladin towards the end or the Hunchback of Notre Dame. The reason it didn't do all that well is that in all reality, white people did not really see themselves in Tiana, and the white 'princess' was the villian.

they even undermined him as a warrior as well.
which is why this next panther movie has a dire need.
to make black panther more intellectually superior in the mcu.

Nah thats not gonna happen. Shuri is the brains of the operation and tchalla is the muscle.

(MCU) Shuri is the equivalent of making Barabara Gordon "the world's greatest detective" and making Batman the "muscle".

As well-intentioned as that would be to empower Barbara/women, you're now making Batman 2nd fiddle (at best) in his most defining trait...

i.e. he'd be dependent on Barbara to solve the Riddler's riddles before he can save the day. All the while fueling some audiences to think, well maybe Batgirl should just be "Batman"...

That's more or less what they did with TChalla and Shuri... so in BP2 what they need to show is that BP is genius damn smart too (and not some throwaway line that he made the prototype suit that Shuri then shat on him for) and that he's a top tier fighter without the suit...

They can both be smart but BP shouldn't be getting outwitted like that, and ZERO compromise when it comes to his fighting prowess.

pretty much. they wanted shuri, but i guess the agressive younger sister warrior didnt fit with the other dora, so they turned her into the brainy sidekick, which isnt bad,, but at the cost of tchalla it was a no go. the question is where are they going to go with the characters from here.
