Good deal?

But is there a point where they get stretched out? :patrice:

And does the NBA want to add another TV partner so they can get to their revenue targets?

It’s already being split between ESPN and TNT unless they want to add a third partner to the mix.

The ironic part about it is that they created the situation with that they find themselves in now as they and TNT way overpaid for the rights years back. We are talking about essentially competing with themselves.

I think TNT and Disney are basically permanent partners with the NBA

But I don’t see them both tripling their current outlays. There would have to be a third partner if the NBA wants to get close to the numbers they’re looking at which is like $7B or $8B per year. It’s currently $2.6 billion per year through 2024-25.

It’s not really surprising seeing that the ratings were trash and the retooling of SNB with A-Rod didn’t help bring in ratings.
Because teams generally hate playing on Sunday nights.

FS1 and MLB Network will just pick up all the weekday games and TBS will keep the Sunday day games.

TBS is moving their games to Tuesday starting next season, so who knows I could see Amazon or Apple getting those weekday non-exclusive games if not offered to ESPN+ or HBO Max already.

There’s also no guarantee that the NBA will even get the amount that they’re asking for. The NFL tried that same attempt in negotiations recently and everyone called their bluff.

ESPN re-upped for crumbs and tossed a lot of weekday games in the bushes. They know they can pick and choose the Sunday night games and the league will (of course) but they marquee teams as the late game (which is usually the series finale) that will be the only baseball game on at the time.

Seems like it would’ve been a great chance for NBC or Fox to kick the tires but NBC already threw a bag at the Olympics and is tossing other content on Peacock. Fox diced up the regional networks in the Disney deal and prolly is content with the random Saturday games it already broadcasts.

Wonder if a streaming network would be willing to come up with a unique solution that would still help them pull in ad $.
