The Haunting of Hill House director Mike Flanagan is interested in making a DC horror movie about Batman villain Clayface. As Warner Bros. continues to grow the DC Extended Universe, the studio will always be looking for unique takes on DC characters that could become movies. While most of DC's upcoming titles align closer to the blockbuster nature of Wonder Woman 1984, DC Films head Walter Hamada expressed a desire to make up to six movies per year, with two exclusive to HBO Max.
This workload means DC will need many more titles than the few they have confirmed release dates for through 2023. It is no secret that there are dozens of other DC projects in the works, and those vary in size and genre too. For instance, James Wan is developing Aquaman 2 and hoping to make a horror-infused spinoff with The Trench. The superhero genre has mostly stayed away from true horror films, but that isn't stopping one of the genre's prominent filmmakers from expressing interest in making a DC horror movie.
Flanagan was asked by a fan on Twitter what DC character or team he would like to tackle. The director, who most recently made The Haunting of Bly Manor for Netflix, revealed that he's been a fan of Superman since he was a child. However, Flanagan also said he'd be interested in making a horror movie starring the Batman villain Clayface. This is currently just an expression of interest by Flanagan and there are no reports that he's been in contact with DC to make any movies, including his Clayface idea.
