First time I heard the song 'Bout It part 3' by Camron it just didnt feel right. Little did I know this was the introduction to NY rappers making music that sounds like its from the dirty south. The song was a promo for the movie Pain In Full which was about 80's Harlem drug dealers. Camron in 2002, on paper, sounds like the perfect person to appoint for such a task of doing a promo for a movie about 80's Harlem gangsters but the song "Bout It part 3' is a remix of a popular hip hop song from down south. As dope as it was, the song kinda came off as dik riding because it was a Master P staple. Cam coulda jacked some music from Harlemites Big L, Teddy Riley or even Mob Style. Overall, the song was more a good look for Master P, not necessarily a good look for Cam, Harlem or NY due to the origin of the song. Dipset would soon have a "throw it on the wall to see what sticks" formula where East Coast style, West coast style and Southern style would be used in their music( Tho the Certified Gangsters beat is more known for being an Eazy E beat from the West Coast song Boyz N The Hood its actually an East coast beat originally done by Whodini on the song "I'm A Ho.") Yeah Swizz played around with that southern cadance style but when Dipset dropped the song "Crunk Musik" it would seal the fate of the direction of the NY sound forever.

"I represent, where them killers at...145th & Broadway you'll get your head cracked"

Cam set that shyt off from the jump...
song and video are top notch and thats all that matters.

145th and Broadway was to commercial tho. You have the Mcdonalds and 1 block away is the entrance to Riverside drive. If anything the headcracking woulda happened on 146th. 147th, 148th 0r 149th street between Brwdway and Amsterdam.....in Between the Blocks. Not on Broadway exactly.

Let me also add that When that video was shot.....Broadway no longer had Dominicans running up on you and harrassing you to buy dope like in the 90's. Hell I remember in 1998 When Dominicans would drive around and if u looked like u wanted to cop they'd roll up on you like police and just ask. By 2002 all of that was dead.

I used to live on 149th between Broadway and Amsterdam. Elementary Catholic School clothes and all....Them Dominicans would see me coming, knew my face and knew my mom but they didnt give a fukk. Everyday it was "Papi....You need something?"

I took advantage of that in 95 tho when a young nikka started dabbling here and there. Them Dominicans wouldnt even know you from an undercover cop , they didnt care they would take u right into an empty apartment(always a walk up....no elevators) with a whole bunch of work in the cabinets. If you were copping they always let you get a little sniff off the triple beam to show you what they were working with. If you had freinds with you, everyone got to take a sniff.

Last time I was over there was 2006 when I was trying to do a lil something. Things had changed. The teens were now running the game not the older dudes. They werent as open as in the 90's. I had to jump thru hurdles just to get them to believe I wasn't a cop. When Master P named dropped 145th and Broadway like that it was due to the rep that area once had. I could only imagine what its like on the hill in 2015.
