You can end up dying alone with or without children. Those without children can still be that aunt and uncle that all of the family loves too. My oldest uncle was childless, always wanted a child, and would have made a great father. In death, there were plenty of people at his funeral mourning his loss, which included all of his nieces and nephews whom we all agreed was our favorite uncle.
Those who do not desire children should not have them. I experienced being the child of a woman who did not really want me, and I can tell you it is a hell on earth childhood. So I have no problem with those who recognize they are not the parenting type avoiding becoming parents. That does not mean they can't be a benefit to children in their family, just that they understand they are not built to be a father or mother full time. My oldest sister, born 7 years after me, has taken this path and I am perfectly fine with her decision.
