I think the difference is more so then being Cushytic/semitic and not Bantu rather than whether they are African or not. Once you stop looking at borders as they are today, you’ll see the borderlands of certain tribes and language families as well as trade routes where they intermingled. Ethiopia being where it is traded towards Yemen/Saudi (being that that’s where the Semitic people migrated from to create the nation state that people would consider Ethiopia (of course after originally migrating out of Ethiopia millions of years before)) and expanded there for a time while also engaging in border wars with kingdoms in present day Sudan, lower Ethiopia, Somalia and more.

Those were the general people they engaged with, traded with, etc so being put in the same class as Bantu speaking tribes when differentiating peoples by race may be something new to them and hard to accept.

I thought it was well known East Africans specifically Somalians, Ethiopian and Eritrean looked down on other black people with more "prominent central and west African" features and heritage.

they may be patriotic to their own countries but out here East Africans have no beef with other Africans lol and dont look down on them at all.
