so the only way for an artist album to be good is the artist has to be talented to be a successful sellout and make somthing that pleases their core fan base and expands their brand
It depends on what type of artist you are and what the label feels that you are capable of doing. If you are B.O.B they are going to get you on that pop shyt and you can save that rapping shyt for you mixtape or something as far as they are concerned. If you are an already established artist like say Big Boi or Nas you can probably do whatever you want with little impediments here and there. If you're bringing in huge revenue like say a Drake, Lil Wayne, Kanye or something you SHOULD be given 90% control of your project.
I think someone like Krit may be able to get more creative control when you consider most of his features are his personal friends, he handles all the beats, and even if he only sells 90K total it's more money then you put up. Cole might get more creative control when you consider he also does the beats and his album did numbers. It's all speculations on my part
