well you have to ask where you draw the line. I agree the c-walk has become rather diluted as a symbol of gang affiliation, but would it have been 'cool' if she started throwing up gang signs?

:stopitslime:I been to prison ( not for a long ass time, but still) and I don't see anything wrong with her doing the dance. People try to bring her sisters death up on some connect the dots shyt, but those 2 incidents are completely unrelated. She simply expressed her jubilation with a dance, as many people do. You can tell it was completely spontaneous and care free.

The dance was not a mockery of her sisters death, but a celebration of her victory. Serena does not require approval from other people on this matter, after all, it's HER sister who died. People need to get over it.

I dont much about the fact that she danced. Her sister was killed by Crips and for her to express "happiness" by repping them in front of front World is unconscionable. Thats like a Iraqi drone strike survivor wearing the American flag necklace for good luck. Its a slap in the face to those who died. Maybe its me.

This a post Martha Stewart Amerikkka. Just cause you did quick bid dont mean you about that life:jawalrus:

As long as she doesn't take it too far and start spelling out a gang, which is what a crip walk is, she is cool. Maybe they do that where she is from and not just gang members. She is just doing the gangsta boogie because she won and is happy and doing something she grew up to. We only know because rappers made it famous not because everyone in the country who is in a gang is doing it. That is the point of making it with your skills, you do most of the things you want and don't give a fukk what other people think because YOU ARE THE MONEY GENERATOR. You dress how you like, you talk how you like, believe what you like and dance how you like because you are the one who brings in money for all the businesses, unless you are being sponsored and on a team where they can replace you. More power to her. The purpose of having money, skill, and your own business that makes money is so you can have freedom to be you. People who are so worried how white people think about her dancing or doing something to make us "look bad" are the ones who don't have freedom and fear people will view them a certain way and mess up their lives which in reality is not going to happen but I think it's a deep seated fear rooted form slavery and jim crow because we are the only ones who think like this to this extreme besides poor people who need a hand out.

A racist/prejudiced person will ALWAYS SEE YOU AS A LOWER CASS ****** so why worry about what they think?. Do you and enjoy your life. I used to be like that but fukk them a$$holes. Doing what you like while making money is what really makes them mad because you don't see them as a superior like you do when you start saying someone is making us look bad or sorry when a black person does something wild. They go through the same shyt and they know because they see it. They hang around each other more then others so they know the real deal. Blacks, just like other races hang around whites rarely yet they are always worried about how they fell or think when in reality they don't think about us too much unless is some negative shyt on tv while we are always talking about them. It seems like blacks are the equivalent of racist whites or other races because only racist people always talk about another race when there is no need to because they aren't around them like that besides school, work or being in public but that still doesn't count because there is little to no interaction.

If the KKK had a little dance would it be okay for anyone to do that, too? Gangs are THE worst thing to happen to us since we've been 'free'. Supporting it or trivializing it in any way does harm to black people. She might as well have started pantomiming smoking crack or selling her p*ssy.

Gangs are bad. Check.

KKK hasn't killed as many black CHILDREN as black gangs. Check.

If Crip dance is okay then the Klan dance -representing a LESS dangerous group - should be okay. I'll give you some time with this one. Read it a couple more times.

If you represent a gang then you represent the smoking of crack and the selling of p*ssy.

Everything seems to be in place. Care to elaborate?

You're adding a hypothetical that everyone would naturally disagree with to skew this current discussion

She didn't throw a sign, nor did she even start "spelling" a set

Crips have been killing Crips for quite awhile (no offense but learn...um lol...gain knowledge on the history).

I learned this in 6th grade breh.

I don't understand why we disregard gang culture as if its not something to learn from. As if its not a window into the mental and physical conditions of a subset of the US population.

shyt, just as a black youth, I thought it was necessary to know what was what to keep my head from getting smacked off "by accident."

And what I mean by my last post is this:

- one, serena and her family clearly have gang ties...it wasn't some random shooting with her sister (now the public knows this, others already figured it out)

- two, serena is still about that life....in the sense that, if this was braids in the hair serena it would've been clear as to why she did it. But this is "I've already won wimbeldon" serena. This is I've been #1 in the world multiple times serena. She's already an established legend in the game. Why at the age of 30, did she feel the need to rock out like that is an even BIGGER question. She's been playing professionally since 95 and now she does it???

- three, for me atleast, this is the first time I've seen 100% genuine personality in her and now it makes sense as to why Game gave her sister a shout out.

You sound slow.

Gangs sell crack and p*ssy.

You think gangs are some civic minded organization?

Are the gangs around your way only into dancing?

I know what I did. my question was where do you draw the line. that's why I pushed it to a more extreme example

Its primarily used as show of belonging to a particular gang or set, and even to taunt rivals. Thus, this simple dance has contributed to needless deaths in our minority and impoverished communities.

Wrong. The c-walk is more popular as a kind of break-dancing than a "gang" dance these days. The use of the dance has changed dramatically over the years.

if this was like late 90s, early 2000s then I could say it was kinda irresponsible but these days it has turned into a dance similar to the harlem shake so :yeshrug:

And I'd like to see statistic for the amount of people that were killed because of c-walking...
