Did you consider Reboot a black cartoon?

:russ:No one is saying that these characters are actually or intended to be black lol. We’re saying that they’re “black coded.” No different than the Piccolos, Panthros, or Skeeters lol. Hell people be calling the Goofy Movie black coded.
I understand what you mean but I still think it’s a reach. The only character that was raced based or coded was Phong because he was suggested as Asian thru his name and look. Everyone else was flat so to speak in terms of identity.

Exactly, i didn’t even think this had to be explained :snoop:

its like we know Lion-o wasn’t a Caucasian man but he was coded white. Similar to pantro being the token black character in the original thundercats or Jazz being the black transformer

Reboot is even more black coded because their physical features are black.
See this is what I mean by reaching…

I bet you won’t be able to describe anything about them that wouldn’t be taken as stereotypical racist descriptions. The only difference is you’re, possibly, black saying they have these features.

There’s nothing to suggest any of them were black coded.

You think they would go through the effort of having asian adjacent characters but be completely racially ambiguous for everyone else? Lol

Yes, because it actually drives the story. He’s suppose to be a sage. Nothing anyone is suggesting about the coding drives the story. You’re just like you feel these characters resemble other black people you’ve seen in real life. Which I get but to compare it to other shows where there is more of an obvious fact.

But, truth be told, that’s how stories are written, in an effort to help you to relate. But, that doesn’t mean that writers intended for you to make that connection

I don’t think you can put dreads on someone realistically and have it not be interpreted that way

:mjlol: We just have to agree to disagree lol. I never said that these characters are in fact black. But are black coded at least to me, especially when I was younger. No different than Knuckles, Martian Manhunter, Darwin, and Brain from Arthur.

I’d say the sprites were MORE of a suggestion to class/race than any of the main characters were. With them, you’d get the common, average idea of a person within the story’s parameters. And that sprite or person could easily be poor trashy, or sometimes even high class.

But, with them, it’d always be the obvious features brought to focus, like say hair or dress, speech, etc.
