Wasn't he like 580 inches taller than everyone else on the court? I heard it was like Shaq playing against the Keebler elves
People say a lot of shyt and don’t know their history, or do their due diligence.
NBA has had gigantic bigs since the foundation of the league, the 1950s Lakers played in Minneapolis with George Mikan. By the time Bill and Wilt entered the league in the late 50s/early 60s, the heights of players had plateaued and levels remained relatively constant ever since.
The real difference over NBA history has been the weight of players.
Which is also why the theory that teams back in the day were slow-paced and low-scoring is also a myth. Teams back then were probably faster.
1960 finals had the Boston Celtics scoring 140, 122, 127, and 103 in its wins.
As a kid, the 1960s era of ball seemed like some sort of mythic era because of the numbers dudes were putting up, and people would make that argument "It's because they all sucked
" but actually now that we see teams putting up those numbers, it seems more likely that the teams back just played at a pace that the NBA is just now starting to cycle back to after decades of players getting heavier, which peaked in 2011 and has been going down since, while the scoring has shot-up (notice the trend?).
