Did the internet make American society worse? Would the political climate have been the same without it?

It's great for the people who use it for educational and business purposes, but most people don't. And we ain't even into A.I. yet. :lupe:

I think this is why America has gotten worse for the most part. People socialized more in person instead of staying behind a screen. Bitter Hoes, incels, and MAGA didn't have a real voice to reach out to the dumb masses. In just 15 years, we have seen the likes of PUA, Sotomayor, *****, Tate, fresh n fit, divestors, MAGA, and Rogan.

It wasn't like this in the early 2000s. I think China does have some merit in blocking content

Maybe it can all change as time goes on and future generations see how big a loser these platforms are.

To answer the second question in the thread title, I'd say the same. I remember George W Bush in the 2000s being almost nearly as hated as Trump is in the current day by the Black community. It was common for rappers to shyt on him, etc. Crazy that a republican president like Trump has multiple rappers supporting him whereas not one rapper I recall ever publicly supported Bush.

Also, remember Didder and his "Vote or Die" campaign? The election for the second Bush term was hyped up as a pretty big deal.

Capitalism made society worse. The internet's true intent was to have restricted information people. Then companies found a way to commercialize it and had no regard of it's consequences. For example, on every misinformation political ad, there is ad revenue being made on the platform.

They used to do all the same shyt in person..... hence why you have so many of the defunct clubs and societies that hold on by a thread these days

I believe so, like it or not, prior to the Internet, we had three primary news agencies for the big tv networks.

They spoke with a consistent voice largely that we trusted with a professional and ethical code of conduct.

That started to fracture with cable news and was shattered when the Internet came to every home and phone

I think if anything the internet helped because you can find information on anything. The problem is the average person doesn’t look for facts. They just accept what they hear many times in the news/tv

It is much worse now since every idiot with a smartphone and a social media account has an opinion.

Most don’t verify or research anything. They just spewing a bunch of junk based on vibes and how they feel.

A lot of the shyt posted on social media now was only whispered in certain circles in years past now folks are emboldened and matter fact in their ignorance.

The internet has been great as a whole. It’s social media thats the problem. Public mass communication is a terrible concept for a society only 80 years removed from global war

Ill go a step further and say social media is good too, but the algorithms that want to push more engagement so we stay on the platforms longer fukked us. People get PAID to be hateful.
