Portugal is an over achiever considering the geographic size of the country along with its population and resources, it never should've been able to dominate Europe let alone be considered a world power.

It's like Japan dominating all of Asia and subduing Russia in the early 20th century or going toe to toe with the US for much of WW2 and even now its still the 3rd largest economy in the world. The country, its population, and internal resources should not lead to dominance within its theater, let alone the world.
