Yep.. I’m on the east coast and I had no idea who Selena was until her movie came out.

She really could have been the next big thing if her life wasn’t cut short.
Crazy how these 90s legends weren't taken seriously when they were alive

2pac was seen as a thug
Selena was a Southwest/Latino niche
Kurt Cobain was some whiny depressed dude

Hmm.. 2pac and Kurt were pretty famous though....

Kurt Cobain got a lot of attention when his band took the #1 spot from MJ on the charts.

Selena wasn’t as famous but she was getting there.

I knew 2pac and Kurt were household names back then. I just didn't realize that outside of their fanbases, they were viewed with eyerolls instead of legends today.

I wonder what a looked down upon musician now my generation and beyond will big up in 20 years

Too bad he was definitely loved by a lot of people while he was alive.

Hmmm good question. Maybe amongst the younger generation like that XXX guy, they would be looked at as “legendary” in the future..

But I think their legend was enhanced because of how they died and the age they died. They were all pretty young.

Black people and Latinx often live in the same neighborhoods in the US, why were whites pretending to be shocked?

I was born in 1998, so I didn't experience most of the stuff y'all are talking about.

don’t even waste your time and energy with that poster that you responded to ; that dude has some type of issues that he needs to get resolved

the truth is J Lo and puff was the biggest power couple ever and the main stream media love that couple because J Lo was the Prototype of what was going to be the standards of beauty a mixed looking, racial ambiguous, sexy, exotic woman with plenty of curves and as far as puff - he was the so-called badboy that was a smart, savvy, businessman that has plenty of power, money and fame

and for the record I was born and raised in the Bronx where the majority of people happen to be Puerto Rican and when those two were together in the early 2000s every single one of them was completely fascinated and in love with that union ..... WELL until shyt went left to be honest !!!

again pay that poster zero mind

Exactly. The press was :patrice:at Ben Affleck dating her, so I doubt they saw her as anything more than a hood Puerto Rican.

You Latino? Anyways if they did it was probably extremely brief. 2Pac Was not favorably looked upon by most people in society around the time of his death and I’m pretty sure Selena fans would be pretty upset if they had dated somebody:mjpls::mjpls::mjpls:.

You sound pretty young but think back to when Puff Daddy was dating Jennifer Lopez how the main stream society reacted to that. :mjpls::mjpls:

Selena was married :russ:

Her death was and is still so sad

Tupac and Kurt were legends back then and are still regarded as legends. Both of these are artists were more well known and more popular than Selena.
