Did Jay-z really ruin Buddens career? Where did it go wrong for him?

When you sit back and think about it :jbhmm:

Budden prettty much had everything lined up for him to take over.

He was pretty much Drake before Drake

AND

He came in the game with a certified CLASSIC hit record. PUMP IT UP.

Then after that everything just went to shyt.

Budden attributes alot of the fukkery to Hov hopping on the song and remixing it while dissing him. He says that it fukked up his trajectory and momentum

BUT

Is that really it? :what: Could that act really have been the catalyst to the Budden on the podcast couch that we see today? :jbhmm:

Worry? I'm, not!
the Mike Jordan of the mic recording

It's Hovi, baby
you Kobe, maybe - Tracy McGrady
Matter fact, you a Harold Miner
J.R. Rider, washed up on marijuana
Even worse, you a Pervis Ellis
You worthless, fella
you ain't no athlete, you Shawn Bradley!!

- Jay-Z (Pump It Up freestyle)

They put Hov’s freestyle on 2K13 instead of Budden’s version too.
Subliminal Hov :wow:

I was a big Budden fan,and Joe had me turn on JayZ talking about #LetBuddenGo. Only for us to all be embarrassed when Jay told us "Joe aint even turn the album in yet:gucci:"

But thats neither here nor there. Joe was not Drake before Drake. I guess you could call him "Dark Drake" if you wanted to. But i really only expected a great under the radar type of career.

I was just telling someone J Cole is more in that The Game and Joe Budden class of rappers. But i had to take that back, because Budden was a few notches above Game and J Cole as an emcee imo.

Joe at his best is a good independent artist. His strengths are more suited for the mixtape lane, where he doesn’t have to follow typical song structure (10 minute songs, rapping for 5 min straights, no hooks, etc).

His beat selection is also better in that lane. It’s pretty poor when it comes to mainstream attempts.

Bad management to start. He couldn't capitalize off of the Desert Storm affiliation. His team allowed his hit song to appear on a movie soundtrack before his debut album was released. I don't think his second album would have sold much. Mood Muzik 2 is great though.

For all of those issues, it's great to see him and Ransom have the success that they are having.

Budden prettty much had everything lined up for him to take over.

:why:
The hell he didn’t. He had a song that was hot for its time. I enjoyed that song, but there was nothing about him, as an artists, that said he was going to be any bigger than he was. Everybody can’t do everything. Everything isn’t plug and play.
