What other movies came out around that time that dealt with the same subject matter? What films in the 90s period?

NBK might fall in the category. Fight Club was/is one of those once or few in a generation movies. I give it it’s props and never knew how hyped it was til after the fact.
I wouldn’t entertain dude, he does a contrarian gimmick

Still great with an amazing ending. Still wild that ppl took all the wrong things about masculinity from it when the film ends with dude explicitly shooting himself in the head, killing the tyler durden version of himself and refocusing on what matters the most to him...Marla.

And wild how so many ppl miss this. Feminist thinks it created generation of women haters and stans made video essays on how Tyler Durden is the "goal". This crazy cac clearly isn't a positive male role model nor is he someone men should lean all the way into.

Crazy white men doing crazy white boy shyt will ALWAYS have some sort of relevance because white people can’t help themselves, which is why this movie has stood the test of time.

This movie is a double edged sword. The intention of it is good and true. It shines a light on the fact that mediocre white men looking outwardly for someone to blame for their boring, basic lives are easily manipulated and dangerous. Any crazy, charismatic leader can push them to a violent and ridiculous direction.

The danger of the movie is that the type of guy the movie is shining a light on are too selfish and self involved to realize they're being portrayed in a bad light. They see it as motivation rather than condemnation.

It's like how 80s yuppies completely misunderstood the film Wall Street.

And then how a bunch of us misunderstood wolf of wall st. The cycle continues

Indeed. Its like there is something wrong with western culture and its lust for money and power. :jbhmm:

One of the craziest things is how the real Jordan Belfort managed to rebrand and glow his image back up a lot after the movie. He's yt coach guru now, hustle don't stop. He basically used the movie as promo for sales advice.

Chuck Palahniuk feels the same way. I honestly feel like this movie foreshadowed QAnon and The Proud Boys in a really scary way

Of all of Palahniuk's books that haven't been converted into movies, I've felt like Haunted would be a wonderful indictment on modern day celebrity worship. Still would love to see it converted. I have no idea how they would do the short story sequences though :merchant:
