Did atheism cause this professor to lose his mind and strip naked

I always shake my head when the agnostics on here post some story of a mentally unstable person who has religious background doing something nuts. My question is, does this same type of logic apply in the opposite way. Could his lack of faith cause him to lose his mind? My answer is no but the reason is the same for both. This people are mentally unstable. The religion or lack thereof didn't cause them to be that way.

The rigors of teaching apparently got to Michigan State University professor John McCarthy Monday.

According to multiple sources, the math teacher stripped naked in the middle of his Calculus 1 class and started shouting obscenities.

Freshman Kyle Hillman toldMLive.com that while walking the class through a routine derivative equation, McCarthy said, "Math is all about questions and answers. And Steve Jobs invented the computer, but what do computers do? They ask questions and we answer them."

"He started talking about his colleagues and how they're all actors," Hillman told MLive.com. "He said, 'It's all an act and none of it's real.' Then he ran out of the classroom."

Background story: I was in Calc 1 at Michigan State University, and my teacher was always pretty eccentric, but today he went overboard. Half way through class, he started screaming at us -- swearing left and right. He then started slamming his hands on the window and pressing his face against it, still screaming. Eventually he walked out and down the hallway to the end, all while screaming. He then came back into the classroom and took off his clothes, except for his socks. You know someones [sic] crazy when they leave their socks on lmao. At this point everyone in class ran out. We were literally scared for our lives. The police took about 15 minutes to get here, and during this time he continued walking around screaming.

According to the Huffington Post, one of McCarthy's obscene rants included, "There is no f--king god."

Clearly atheism removes barriers of restraint necessary for men to keep their mind out of a demonic zone. With these barriers removed, demons from the pagan era are allowed to enter him and influence him to live out their satanic traditions.

I don't think anyone would suggest that religion causes insanity. Rather, religion contributes to prior mental problems in some cases by interacting with said mental problem. A lack of belief, by definition, cannot do that because it offers no compulsions or ideas of its own that could interact with someone's problems. Take this instance for example. His statement that there is no god could be traced to atheism, if indeed he is an atheist, but that's it, and nothing about that statement is particularly insane, since a regular person could also say it without seeming abnormal. The rest of it, even the compulsion to make such a declaration, finds no connection whatsoever to atheism, unlike religions, which have authorities that explicitly mention, sanction and even command some of the actions taken by religious people who happen to be insane.
