Did anyone have a better run in a year than Shawn Michaels in 1996?

:whew: He really carried the fukk out of the company that year, consistently pulling down 3 and 4 star matches to main event PPV's. He had a good ass match with Diesel :damn:, Bret was gone, Nash was gone, Razor was gone and he continued carrying the company just by putting on good ass matches and dope programs. I've been watching every RAW and PPV of 1996 on the network and he really was the fukking GOAT that year in the ring and on the mic. Only thing comparable would be Stone Cold in 98 :manny: but HBK had much better matches

A lot of people. Goldberg, Cena, Rock for starters.

He was great in the ring, but i feel like he hadn't found himself character wise and truly become elite until 97

One of the biggest failed years ever...the NWO MURDERED Shawn in 96. Killed. Stomped him dead. He wasn't shyt in 96. He was overtaken by Sid 8 months after he was given the ball at Mania 12...

Goldberg had a monster 98..all time records
Austin had a monster 98..all time records
Hogan had a monster 87...him and Andre shook the earth
Rock transcended the business like no other in 2000
Savage ruled the world in 1989...

you mean the year WCW started dominating the WWF in ratings

ratings dont matter, they only started winning because of other shyt. HBK was literally all WWF had, and he carried them pretty well with what they had, if it was just Bret, or just anyone else shyt would've been way worse. HBK carried that shyt with dope PPV matches and everything else. And WWE had better/equal PPV numbers and house show gates but whatever :yeshrug:

:lolbron: And lost $6 million?

http://whatculture.com/wwe/19-things-wwe-wants-forget-shawn-michaels.php/11

The mid 1990s in WWE weren’t the greatest of times for the company. They really had a tough time replacing Hulk Hogan as a top draw. Top talent was leaving to WCW like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to name a few. Not only that, but WCW was also red hot after starting Nitro in September 1995 and then doing the New World Order angle in the summer of 1996.

Who was the top guy in WWE in 1996? Shawn Michaels. He was the WWE Champion for most of the year, but he wasn’t a very good draw. The company lost a reported $6 million from May 1996 to April 1997, which was the time when Michaels was clearly on top. It wasn’t all his fault because Bret Hart was on a break for six months and they really had no other top stars other than Undertaker. However, as the champion a lot of the blame went on Michaels. The champion should get the credit when things go well and with that comes the blame when things go badly.

When WWE really started to grow as a company it was in early 1998 while Michaels was the heel champion facing off with Steve Austin. WrestleMania 14 was a huge success with Michaels dropping the WWE Title to Austin and it was boosted by the inclusion of Mike Tyson. The thing is, WWE grew even bigger after WrestleMania in 1998 with Austin as the clear top guy and they even surpassed WCW in the ratings after losing to them for nearly two full years.

I'm not even just talking about a draw, I'm talking about as an on screen character period. Includes promos/matches/work rate all that, not draw power lol if you go by that then I guess you'd consider Hogan the GOAT :francis:
