Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32KOs) had to overcome some obstacles in winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Bermane Stiverne to capture the WBC heavyweight title on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Wilder knew the fight would get tougher after injuring his right hand during the fourth or fifth round. Wilder also had an eye to his left eye, which was very red - but that injury happened during a training exercise on Friday night when a stretching band accidently hit him directly in the eye.
"The injury to the hand happened in the fourth or fifth round. He has a hell of a chin and he has a hard head. I had to bluff him a little bit. I didn't want him to see that I was injured in the ring. What he kept saying in the ring was 'your eye is red' but he didn't know that I did that myself. I had to bluff a lot of things. That's what a champion is made of. You keep on, no matter what's hurting. I couldn't stop. I couldn't say 'oh my hand's hurt' so I had to keep hitting him with it and that's where the jab played in," Wilder said.

He probably would've gotten Stiverne out of there in the late rounds if the hand injury didnt occur
