Above the fray.
The film A Soldier's Story had some of the top Hollywood talent. The tragic cloud over the movie saw some of the actors passing away or having struggles .

Sarge passed away. CJ and the Capt. had public struggles with substances.

The film was the breakout role for them and other cast members.
CJ and Capt. were poised to become bigger stars

Poitier, James Earl Jones, Paul Winfield?? Come on, ese

That was one of the GOAT casts.

Howard Rollins was a great actor and matched Denzel in that movie.

Adolph Caesar stole the show. He was special. I wish he’d lived longer to give us more performances.

Yeah, Rollins had the screen presence, skills, and resume to really blow up.

The late Adolph Caesar put on an acting clinic.
*David Alan Grier just won a Tony two days ago for playing Sarge in a Broadway revival of the play

In the era since then, I think the other great actors to have emerged have been Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, and Roger Guenver Smith, and Wesley Snipes

I think Lawrence Fishburne and Joe Morton are excellent actors. Neither has the screen presence of Denzel, but I think they are the ones who got Jordaned out of roles by him in that era.

Robert G Smith is 66? The years are flying by. I thought he was younger than that.
