Delonte West says he’s not homeless after photo of him goes viral
Delonte West, who hasn’t played in the NBA since 2012 and suffers from bipolar disorder, was photographed walking on the side of a Maryland on Monday looking disheveled.
Between his attire and piece of cardboard, it led some to believe he is homeless.
“Let’s Pray For Delonte West Y’all He Bipolar And On St.Barnabas Road Bumming Smh He Ain’t Taking His Medicine,” Twitter user @JJ_RipCuba wrote along with the photo, which has since been erased,
according to Complex.
After the photo went viral, West said that he is doing fine and was only aiding a homeless person he saw while driving.
“I was helping a homeless man in my neighborhood that’s paralyzed from neck down,”
West told Media TakeOut. “I parked my car and got out to help because it was 90 degree weather and I was feeling blessed at the moment for just having legs.”
It’s not the first time West, who during his playing days with the Cleveland Cavaliers was rumored to be romantically linked to LeBron James’ mother, has had to defend his health and sanity.
In February, he was spotted, once again in disheveled clothing, including a hospital gown, in the parking lot of a Texas
Jack in the Box.
The former first-round pick reportedly told a fan that noticed him and asked if he was Delonte West “I used to be but I'm not about that life anymore.”
