Skill Up straight up shytted on this game.
He basically says the game is too dumbed down for its own good. Isn't a challenge. Doesn't properly utilize its time aspect because time only really moves when you go to the menu not while playing the game itself. The story and ending don't hold up.
GameSpot gave it game of the year. I still haven't gotten around to playing it but I will soon.
I think it should be noted that Skill Up has beef with Bethesda. I think it stemmed from his Fallout 76 criticism. They stopped sending him games and they may have even tried to block videos on YT.
He didn’t review this game at release because he didn’t have early access and I’m sure he didn’t want to add-on to the release hype/marketing at launch. But he made sure to circle back just to shyt on it during GOTY awards season. (These guys aren’t slick, you gotta watch how they move)
Due to bias, he can’t be trusted to ‘objectively’ review any Bethesda release.
Deathloop is a good game with some gameplay flaws that just needed refinement. Arkane deserves props for the front and center Black characters and the different than standard FPS story/progression. The foundation is more than laid for a great sequel or spinoff title.
