Childish Gambino is a really clever lyricist but he's wild corny and his music isn't very good.

I've always said that lyricism doesn't mean a whole lot in hip hop and some of y'all on here act like I'm crazy. I've BEEN saying this: just about anyone can write rhymes. But very few have the taste and imagination to make/select a hot beat and have the flow down. The flow takes years to develop.

Donald Glover has written TV. He's more than smart enough to write a rhyme. I gave the example of Bill Clinton writing raps and Coli folk dismissed it It's the same shyt. Once you go past a certain age, just about anyone can write rhymes. "Decent" ones too. And by decent, I'm talking C+ level or worse rhymes. But very few can flow. Childish Gambino makes shytty so-called hip hop because he doesn't have the personality/taste/flow for hip hop. Simple.
