DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths Animated Trilogy (Final part out)

New rumors say that DC Comics' animation department is putting together a trilogy of original movies based on Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The rumor was reported by producer and film critic Matías Léorta, who said on Twitter, "SCOOP: DC is purportedly planning a three-part animated adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths, which would bring together different versions of its heroes." If true, the trilogy might bring together not only characters from the much-loved DC Animated Universe -- an ongoing continuity of television shows, lasting from the 1992 debut of Batman: The Animated Series and ending with the 2005 conclusion of Justice League Unlimited -- but also from the DC Animated Movie Universe, TV shows like Teen Titans or Harley Quinn, shorts like the DC Showcase collection or countless more.

Crisis on Infinite Earths was a twelve-issue miniseries that ran from April of 1985 to March of 1986. The story was meant to put an end to DC's multiverse, collapsing the various parallel Earths the company had introduced over the years into one (mostly) streamlined continuity. Crisis ended up being not only a bestseller but a turning point for DC and for superhero comics as a whole, signalling a change in direction to darker stories for a more mature audience. Two sequels followed the miniseries: Infinite Crisis in 2005 and Final Crisis in 2008. It was also adapted into a multi-episode crossover set across the various shows of the Arrowverse.


DC has released 45 original animated features, beginning with Superman: Doomsday in 2007. During that time, there have been two serials following ongoing continuities: the DCAMU, made up of fifteen movies between Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox in 2013 and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War in 2020; and the 'Tomorrowverse,' which includes Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Justice Society: World War II and the two-part Batman: The Long Halloween.

DC has confirmed three animated movies are currently in the works. The first, the anime-inspired Catwoman: Hunted, will be released on Feb. 8. Screenwriter Greg Weisman has said the movie's continuity is "adjacent" to his long-running series Young Justice. Two more features were announced at DC FanDome 2021: Green Lantern: Beware My Power and Battle of the Super Sons, the latter of which will be the first DC Universe movie to be computer animated. Additionally, an animated adaptation of Metal Men was announced to be helmed by longtime Disney directors Ron Clements and John Musker, as well as a movie based on the Milestone Comics characters, including Static, Icon and Hardware.

Why do they keep going back and forth being the animation styles? Just pick one and stick to it unless you’re going to use in movie reasoning like Flash resetting time as a reasonable excuse to change it.

Why do they keep going back and forth being the animation styles? Just pick one and stick to it unless you’re going to use in movie reasoning like Flash resetting time as a reasonable excuse to change it.

At one point they had intended on the animated movies to have animation that matched the art on the comics (I think New Frontier was the only movie where they even attempted to do it and that still didn't look exactly like Darwyn Cooke's art) but then they realized how expensive that would be and ditched the idea.

But even the last universe ended on a huge event...that was just 3 years ago lol!
We haven't met most of this universe to even care for any characters at all.
