That's what bothers me the most about this.
We don't know if the two guys had history (maybe he was a friend of the family but those two hated each other, etc), we haven't heard from anyone who actually saw the man stab him ("all of us turned around and all we saw was blood"), nothing.
They aren't giving any explanation, just said "over a piece of chicken" to make headlines and perpetuate negative stereotypes. It's so subtle yet so obvious.

Still, it's sad for the kid, and unless the 25 y-old was in danger what he did was overboard.
