The EP's played this all wrong though - if they'd come out and said "We did a scene with Bats eating Catwoman's ass

this is what happens when you get people creatively involved that aren't really fan's of the property. They always try to do some random extra shyt that they think would make the characters interesting. Brainstorming on some bs like " ok i know people like spiderman as a friendly neighborhood herioc webslinger right? but think about this, what if instead of shooting webs and climbing walls, he was a man transitioning into a woman, and flew a spaceship?
Should just let the people who wrote popular comicbook arcs handle all the scripts for the tv shows and movies.
